| The Autumn 1999 issue of the Green Bag
(Vol. 3, No. 1) contains a mistake. It appears on page 75, in our introduction to Martin
Shapiros commentary on an article by Charles Warren titled The Charles River
Bridge Case. We confused -- merged, really -- Charles Warren and Samuel Warren.
Charles Warren was a prominent historian and public servant around the turn of the
nineteenth century into the twentieth. He did not, however, co-author The Right to
Privacy with Louis Brandeis. Samuel Warren did. Samuel was Brandeiss partner in
the lively private practice to which we referred, and it was Samuel who was described as
competent in Erie. We still like Charless article, but we wish we had
taken more care when putting together our introduction. Sorry about the sloppy editorial
work, and thanks to Anthony Lewis for gently bringing this to our attention. |
